Upgrade Policy

Maintenance releases are always free to all paid users of the version they are based on. For example, all Synk 6.1.x updates are free to Synk 6.1 owners. Larger updates such as from Synk 6.1 to Synk 6.2 are also generally free to all paid users of the previous version, though there may be occasional exceptions—check the release notes. Finally, for 6 months following your original purchase, you are entitled to all upgrades of the purchased product for free, regardless of the size.

Beyond that timeframe, you will receive a credit of 20% of your original purchase price towards any non-free upgrades. You are given an opportunity to enter your upgrade information for your credit during the standard purchase process.

Should products be added to (or removed from) a product family within the free upgrade time, you can apply a 100% credit of your original purchase price to another product within that family. Outside of the free upgrade time, the standard 20% credit applies.

Competitive Upgrades

A competitive upgrade is also available for paid users of a competing product (e.g. Retrospect, Super Duper, ChronoSync, etc.) at a discount of 20% of your original purchase price, up to 50% of the total new purchase price. Please contact with your information to obtain this discount.

Refund policy

We want all of our users to be happy users. Thus, in addition to the free trial/demo periods on all of our software, we also offer an unusually long 60-day refund period. Just contact support and let us know about your problem—if we can't make you happy with your purchase, then we don't want your money.

Volume and Educational Licenses

Purchases of multiple licenses of a single product will automatically receive a volume discount from the store. Plug in the numbers you're interested in to see how much it would cost.

As we collectively have decades of post-secondary education (and decades more of other education), we understand how tight educational budgets can be. As such, we offer discounts to students, faculty, and staff of accredited educational institutions for personal use only. The exact discount varies by product, and an educational email address is required. Simply follow the directions in the store.

For the record, please note that educational licenses will be issued solely at our discretion. Discounted single-user educational licenses are not valid for wider deployments, like in a lab or a department, and excessive requests from a single institution/department may result in requests from that group being denied. We have good volume discounts—try those instead!
